Sesshu Toyo was the most prominent Japanese master of ink and wash painting
from the Muromachi period(1336-1573). He stayed in Masuda twice and painted
some of his masterpieces.
In Masuda, there are two gardens which he designed. They are called as
"Sesshu Garden", one is in Ikoji Temple and another is in Manpukuji
Sesshu spent his later years in a temple on a hill-top in Masuda.
Now, there is Sesshu Memorial Museum on the hill-top and his grave yard
behind the museum.
The former head curator of the museum, Kiyoshi Miyamoto studied about Sesshu
and delivered four papers in the Museum Magazine. I put links to pages
of his work. I hope they are helpfull for your study.
